Overview
The MMORPG expansion is a massive upcoming update that will transform Calamity from an ARPG-style experience into a full-scale MMORPG.
Currently in active development, the MMORPG update will represent the final form of the game’s crypto-integrated economy and introduce a persistent world, player professions, dynamic zones, and more — while staying true to Calamity’s fast-paced combat and player-driven design.
Game Philosophy
Calamity is a user-driven sandbox MMORPG, inspired by the best mechanics of successful online MMORPGs. It features tight integration of a crypto token as the core of its economic system, aiming to deliver a truly rewarding and competitive web3 gaming experience.
Characters
The MMORPG expansion will bring deeper character progression systems to Calamity, allowing players to customize their playstyle like never before.
We’re introducing Talent Trees, which let you shape your character’s strengths, utilities, and combat mechanics. These trees will add significant build variety, even within the same class — meaning two players using the same base class can have completely different gameplay experiences.
In future updates, we also plan to expand this system with subclasses, offering further specialization and more unique identities per build.
Professions
Professions will become a central pillar of your character’s identity in the MMORPG.
We're currently developing six distinct professions — split between:
3 Gathering Professions (focused on collecting key resources)
3 Crafting Professions (focused on producing gear and consumables)
Each profession will have its own talent tree, allowing players to specialize.
Importantly, most high-value gear won’t drop directly from mobs — it will need to be crafted using rare materials and components, some of which are only obtainable through different professions.
This system is designed to:
Strengthen the in-game economy
Encourage player collaboration and trading
Promote long-term engagement and interdependence between roles
Professions aren’t just a side activity — they are a core gameplay loop that supports the broader MMO ecosystem.
World Design
The world consists of separate zones, connected by travel routes. Players move between zones by:
Walking to the edge of a map
Using a special portal to transition to an adjacent location
Zones are categorized as either:
🟩 Green Zones – PvP is disabled
🟥 Red Zones – PvP is enabled
Certain zones contain dungeon entrances, where players fight monsters under special rules in instanced environments.
If a player is killed in a PvP zone, most of the items in their inventory can be looted by the killer.
However, gear (swords/armor/rings/trinckets, etc.) cannot be looted
Play-to-Earn
Calamity’s MMORPG Play-to-Earn (P2E) system will be designed to be both engaging and sustainable, rewarding active players through leaderboards and a unique daily lottery mechanic.
Players can earn lottery tickets of varying rarities by:
Defeating monsters
Progressing through different gameplay activities
These tickets can be used in a daily in-game lottery, where players have a chance to win $WYRM tokens and valuable loot. The more rare the ticket, the higher the potential reward.
Additionally, tickets will be fully tradable and collectible, adding another economic layer for players who want to speculate, trade, or stockpile for future events.
